I'm starting a new web-based disease! Wherein I take a close look at and break down three of my favourite DiD pieces and then cough on another member of the DiD community here on DeviantArt! ... For academia's sake.
I think It will be fun.
Here we go.
Number 1:
UNDER THE WATER by (Who really deserves more attention, by the way) featuring Lady from Devil May Cry 4.
There's plenty of trapped underwater bondage pics, it's a fairly popular subject (Disney strikes again) but I don't think I've seen a piece that takes advantage of it as well as this one. With the flaps of her clothes, her necklace, her hair, all drifting against gravity, her sunglasses drifting away by the current, like there's an invisible force constantly tugging on her on in all directions, making her peril seem all the more intrusive.
Her expression and her contorted pose are both lovely on their own, but they play together to create even more emotions. Lady isn't going to take this sitting down, but it's not like there's a lot she can do about it. So her asymmetric expression wants to match her defiant body language but is also still shocked at the desperation of her situation, which loops back around to make her struggling form look all the more doomed and helpless.
If there's on take away I think it's that - the power of asymmetric facial expressions.
Number 2:
Birthday President by Featuring 's character Shakti at the mercy of Nomad's own Nomoko.
This is, hands down, my favourite DiD piece ever. An example of how even stuffy old principles of general art can enhance eye candy like this. Nomoko's pose and the silhouette of her dress form a swooping triangle that leads your gaze up to the main star of the piece: Nomoko's face, Shakti's face, and Shakti's lovely baggage. It was wise to leave plenty of negative space at the top of the picture, it leaves this focus point of the image right around where the rule of thirds says we naturally expect to see the most important thing in the picture.
Notice that even the ripples in the fabric of Nomoko's skirt form a swooping motion guiding your eye. And even Shakti's lower legs, which would seem to interrupt the triangle silhouette, are still angled to catch your attention and then lead it back towards the action; due to perspective, her feet are the closest to the foreground, and it's natural your eyes trace where the feet are coming from.
Something I've made an effort to learn from in Nomad's art is how he takes full advantage of the soft, squishy properties of the not just the muscle bellow the skin, but the fatty deposits as well. The way her shoulder is being squeezed and deformed around the tricep by the tape, and how not just her breasts but the surrounding flesh in her chest is all being pushed upward and restricted. Combine that with how perfectly drawn the seems and stretched reflections are to display the tension in the tape. It's immediately communicated how tightly Shakti's been wrapped up.
Number 3:
Do you copy?! by featuring Mercy and Roadhog from Overwatch.
It takes a careful touch to dip into full nudity, but this is a great example of using its powerful implications of fear and vulnerability instead of just a more blatant than usual peepshow.
Light is used very effectively here, with Roadhog being obfuscated, large and imposing, in shadow while Mercy is hung out in the light, like the whole universe's attention is unwantedly on her. Combined with her pale flesh tone, she almost looks to be glowing, which matches the ethereal vibe she was designed to put out in the first place.
When I first saw this piece I thought the text balloons were extraneous, but now I think they do add something. It adds a flow of time to how one experiences the image; it creates a scene in one's mind where in this monologue, oblivious to the situation at hand, is answered with powerful silence and a single still image.
I actually can't tell the angle of Mercy's head; if she's letting her head drop in dejection, or if she's looking Roadhog (probably fearfully) in the eyes. But maybe that's just gravy, that we get to pick. They're both appealing to imagine.
Well those are my three pic picks!
And now I will tag...
I want to see what pieces demonstrate the aspects of DiD art that really make the difference for other people. So of course, anyone who wants to join in, don't feel like you have to wait to be tagged.

It's one of my faves. By artist @RudeToons It really shouldn't be sitting at just 2 comments... ...so say I!
Spider-Woman incoming
It has been brought to my attention that even though I'm not submitting anything to Patreon right now, people still get charged for a single post when they sign up. And since people might not know that there's currently no point in signing up, I don't want them getting charged for nothing (although they might just be trying to get access to what's already there) I already asked my Patrons how they'd feel if the comic was made available for free now that it's complete, and the responds was a round "We funded it. It exists now, nothing else matters". So to prevent people from being charged only to get it and find out I'm not posting right, I'm going to properly put my Patreon account in hibernation and posting issue 1 of Spider-Woman: Return of Hangman here on deviant art.
2022 - The Year of Finishing Shit
2021 was... better, wasn't it? I don't know about good, but better. For me personally, it was quite good all things considered. Oh I should still be camping outside my therapist's office. It was a bit up and down, month-to-month with this hideous demon in my head that means my love of drawing sine waves between being a great source of comfort and relaxation for me and a great source of stress and anxiety. I launched my Patreon in 2021, and I couldn't be happier with the support. After wrapping up part on of Spider-Woman: Return of Hangman, I think I should take stock, take feedback, and see if shouldn't massage the parameters of what exactly my Patreon is. Both to me and to the people who support me. But one thing at a time. Speaking of wrapping things up though - 2022 will be the year of finishing shit! On my immediate radar are... - Finishing Spider-Woman #1, of course. It's been great, and you can be sure that things are only getting started. There's plenty in store of Ms. Drew!
